Dust is omnipresent! Sand, soil, dead skin, pollen, soot, fabric fibres, hair and more contribute to the layers that accumulate on your surfaces every day.
Visible dust particles are an eyesore, but dust can be the reason for sore eyes, throat and more! It is a common cause of allergic reactions. Dust accumulation can also permanently stain furniture and hard surfaces, and also hinder the functioning of ventilation, heating and cooling systems.
Regular dusting is a part of a good sanitation regime. Horizontal surfaces must be dusted at least a couple of times a week and vertical surfaces need the same every fortnight.
Static dusters, duster extensions and microfiber cloths are essential for basic dusting. Vacuum cleaners with brush attachments are effective when it comes to upholstery and hard-to-reach areas.
To ensure that dust doesn’t flow from one part of the room to another, start from a corner and work your way clockwise or anti-clockwise. Take care to start on top and move your way downwards. Move each object and dust under the surface.
Gently wipe monitor and TV screens with a dry microfiber cloth. Using newspaper, tissue paper and other materials with window cleaning surfactants scratches the surface. Special anti-static cleaners help get rid of fingerprints and prevent immediate accumulation of dust.
Blinders need to be dusted from top to bottom on each blind and as a whole unit. Vacuum cleaners with brush attachments can also be used to clean blinders. This can be used to rid upholstered furniture of dust too.
Fire extinguishers, signboards, frames, jambs, handrails, showcases, lights and other such articles that are not touched on a daily basis are places where layers of dust easily accumulate. Thoroughly dust each of these surfaces.
Desks, cabinets, drawer handles, partitions, light switches and windowsills are some areas that are regularly touched. These have a combination of fingerprints, oil residue and slight settlement of dust, which need to be wiped away.
Remember, wiping captures dust. Flicking cloths and dusters merely displaces dust to transfer it to another part of the room.
